Abstract - Summary (short description): | |
Crystallization of cohenite (Fe3C) from Fe-C melt leads to 2‰ enrichment of crystals by heavy carbon isotope. It have been shown that diamond growing from Fe-C melt is 4.5‰ enriched with heavy carbon isotope. Calculated equilibrium carbon isotope fractionation between diamond and cohenite is about 10‰. Distribution of carbon isotopes in our experiments not allow expected equilibrium carbon isotope compositions of diamond and cohenite crystallized from the same Fe-C melt. |
