Abstract - Summary 
(short description):
Nitrogen abundances and isotopic compositions were obtained for growth sectors of specific faces of synthetic diamond crystals using SIMS. Sectors of faces {111}, {100} and {311} contain respectively 80, 20 and 6% of nitrogen in comparison with initial graphite. Sectors of growth of faces {111} and {311} have 15N values equal to initial one. Growth sector of cube shows 30Й enrichment in heavy nitrogen isotope. Fractionation of both atoms and isotopes of nitrogen on face {100} is considered as a result of statistical selection during atom by atom growth. Small scale of nitrogen partitioning on face {111} could be associated with incorporation of blocks of atoms along with single atoms. Face {311} has crystallochemical elements of both octahedral and cubic faces. Absence of isotope effect together with maximum nitrogen atom partitioning on face {311} could be helpful for considering of particular reasons of bulk atom and isotope fractionation associated with features of growing surface during diamond crystallization at high temperature and high pressure.
