Abstract - Summary 
(short description):
Combination of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), including in situ studies and video-records analysis, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) used to study the microstructure of αFe2O3 spherulites (corundum structure) and the surface relief.
Complicated regular change in lattice orientations are indicated by regular bend contour patterns on the TEM images. Concentric zones of different orientations and imperfection revealed by TEM are also seen in AFM, based on the character of fibrous structure.
It is revealed by AFM that globular structure of initial amorphous material is inherited by the crystals grown herein which results also in similar size distribution.
Probably most important observation for the amorphous-crystalline interface: there are strong variations in crystal height, probably associated with variations of lattice orientations, which should be taken into account for advanced models of crystal growth in amorphous films.
