Abstract - Summary 
(short description):
The article presents the results of the testing of a new method for the sylvinite quality evaluation, based on the measurement of petromagnetic properties of the core samples of the potassium salts. The invented technique was applied to the Kungurian potassium salt complex in the Gremyachinskoe deposit, Volgograd region. Pure sylvinite has a distinct diamagnetic effect and negative magnetic susceptibility (K), whereas the clastic and sulphate impurities are paramagnetics and have positive magnetic susceptibility. So, K value can be used as an indicator of the presence or absence of the extraneous impurities in the salts. Petromagnetic data is proved to be important not only for the sylvinite quality evaluation, but also for the reconstruction of the halogenesis conditions and more detailed stratification and correlation of the salt layers. The main advantage the petromagnetic method possesses is that it is express, for it doesnТt involve microscopic studies of the thin sections and eliminates the need for the prolonged solid residue obtaining through salt dissolving.
